Graphics & Animations

Whatever the type of web site you require, you will need a certain number of graphics to enhance the site for your visitors.  It may be that the graphics make up the navigation of the site (like the menu bars on this page) or they are to provoke thought or inspire purchases.

The problem with graphics is that they take time to download into your viewers browser, so their file size should always be kept as small as possible.  This is where the services of a professional web designer make a lot of difference.

If done properly, all web pages should take no more than 15 seconds (under normal internet conditions) to load.  Unfortunately many sites take much longer than this, and it is nearly always down to bad use of graphics.

We have taken pages which had graphics over 80k in size and reduced them to under 20k.  The time saving this created meant that more visitors actually viewed the page - as it is a well known fact that if pages take too long to load then most people move on to the next site and you've lost your audience.

Animations should be used in sites with caution, although they look very pretty they can be extremely distracting and draw viewers away from what you are trying to say.

The best example of animation the "Graphics & Animation" title above.  Simple, effective animation, which does not wreck the page, as it runs only when the page is first loaded (hit re-load to see it again).   The bouncing ball sort of animations can be made to good use, but don't you find irritating by now?

We create animations with DHTML, animated GIFs, Java and Flash (if none of this means anything to you don't worry, that's why you're using us!)
